Leben und Dienen
(Live and Serve)
‘Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute.’ Solomon
Leben und Dienen (Live and Serve) is not only the name of our organization, but also a reflection of its programme. Our era is shaped by war and economic hardships. This is true of the Central Sahara, a region that does not get much attention. This hostile desert is home to diverse ethnic groups whose territories span the borders of several different countries.
One of the most secluded and least known groups is the Teda (or Tubu) tribe. Old caravan routes from the lake of Chad to the Mediterranean Sea cross their territories, and their governance has always been an essential source of income.
Rebellions and conflicts still impact the life of the proud and warlike Teda tribe. Education, infrastructure and health care in their areas are rudimentary. The lack of economic prospects can facilitate radicalisation. So the starting point for our project in the Central Sahara is to live among this people and to serve them. Motivated by the Christian world-view on humanity, we want to support local initiatives as best we can with our means and possibilities. Together with our local partners, we are committed to facilitating a life full of prospects and peace.
Are you interested?
We cannot do this work alone; therefore we have national and international partnerships. We also need people like you: people who are willing to show solidarity through practical and financial help.
If you have any questions please let us know. We would be happy to keep you informed about our work and projects in our newsletter. Furthermore, we would like to get in touch with you by e-mail or to meet you in person.
Who is ADP?
Our partner organization in Africa is ADP. This stands for “Association pour le Développement et la Paix” (in English “Association for development and peace”)
This non-profit organization was founded by three Chadians and two immigrants in 2007 and is recognized by the Chadian government at the highest level. ADP’s primary goal is to empower the Teda and related groups of the Central Sahara in their cultural and linguistic identity, in order to prevent their radicalization. For this purpose ADP takes a holistic approach. Core areas are literacy training and development of literature and media in the native language; these go hand in hand with development work in its broader sense: education, agriculture, health care etc.
